The President of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has issued a statement saying: "We cannot bow to fear and intimidation. In the next few days, I call on our friends and international partnerships, and the International Security Council must continue their relations and efforts with Erbil and Baghdad in order to prevent further terrorist attacks together."
A message from the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government:
As citizens throughout Kurdistan, I am very concerned about the recurrence of terrorist attacks on the people and public infrastructure of Kurdistan in the past few months. "The cowards behind the attacks have resorted to criminal attacks because they have lost the court of public opinion in the rest of the country," he added, "rather than focus on the future, and economic integration with the rest of the world to create jobs for the youth, rebellious groups fire rockets on our villages and civilians."
"throughout my call with Prime Minister Mustafa Kadhimi, I emphasized the need for joint Peshmerga and Iraqi security forces to fill any remaining vacuum in the disputed areas used by disordered groups to recklessly deliberately sabotage the whole of the country," he continued, "I gave explanations to the Prime Minister that the attacks threaten stability and weaken the investment climate for all the country as a whole."I asked him to take serious and practical measures to control these groups.
I have also directed both Ministers of Peshmerga Affairs and Interior to take all measures necessary to protect critical public infrastructure and oil and gas installations, and more troops shall be deployed near these facilities.
last night I also held a phone call with the White House's Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk.
"Our American friends, and every investor must remain committed; we cannot give in to fear, Over the next few days, I will urge our international friends and partners, and the UN Security Council to renew efforts with Erbil and Baghdad and explore ways for us both to protect against more terror attack.
The KRG, apprehending the role of investment in the oil and gas sector and all public infrastructure, is also looking at and defending it. We are very clear that attacking anywhere in Kurdistan is an attack on all Kurdistan and the people of Kurdistan in general.
I call on the people of Kurdistan to strengthen their will. This is a clear attack on our infrastructure and part of a destructive attempt to stop us from strategic plans and our reform agenda. But surely we will be as patient as ever.
